Muurbloem design studio makes Hampshire Hotel Delft swing!

UTRECHT, April 16, 2024 – Last month, Muurbloem design completed the renovation Hampshire Hotel in Delft. Over a period of three months, the 92 rooms and 8 corridors were fitted with new carpeting, wall coverings and lighting floor by floor. The festive design is inspired by the owners' passion – music in all its forms and manifestations. Their assignment for the Muurbloem design team was: make our hallways and rooms swing!

Under the leadership of creative director Gonnette Smits, a daring design was developed that sets the hotel to a completely new tune while also fitting in with the architecture and other spaces. The shapes were derived from the gigantic mural on the facade while the textures were inspired by the rich melodies and images of the musical past. Each floor was linked to a unique music style, from the blaring sounds of Disco to the melancholic tones of Blues. This resulted in an interior with international allure and a refinement befitting a 4-star hotel. “A symphony of hospitality and imagination,” says Smits.

Renovating while the hotel remains operational

The implementation of the challenging design, with surfaces that transition from floor to wall, posed a certain challenge and that is why Muurbloem design studio was also asked to supervise the realization from start to finish. For the Utrecht design agency, renovating while the hotel continues to operate is a specialty and this was a welcome solution for the successful Delft 4-star hotel which has good occupancy rates even in the low season.

Sustainable materials and smart budgeting

With this materialization, Muurbloem and the clients fully focused on a combination of sustainability and budget smart thinking. The wall-to-wall carpet from EGE Carpets was made from recycled plastics and old fishing nets. This floor covering with unique designs is Cradle to Cradle-certified and is taken back by the manufacturer after 10 years to be reprocessed into carpet.

The wall covering consists of 100% recycled polyester with a protective coating based entirely on potato starch from the food industry. By completely stripping the walls, the new wall covering will be easy to remove In the future and in this way the efficiency of future renovations was also taken into consideration.

The new lighting plan ensures improved lighting of the room and a more pleasant stay, but at the same time continues to consider the requirements for the hotel's Green Key certification.

A succesful project thanks to good project management

Thanks to the detailed work description and planning of Muurbloem design studio, every executor delivered the work on time and thanks to accurate budget management, the project also remained within budget. The hotel team felt closely involved in the 'remix' of their interior and the employees enthusiastically helped with moving out and furnishing the rooms. This well-orchestrated collaboration created a unique hospitality experience in which every guest is welcomed in the universal language of music!
